Release Today: Shadow Stalker Episode 6, Destiny Reconciled Part Two

I recently reviewed Renee Scattergood’s Shadow Stalker Episode 5, Destiny Reconciled Part One and today is the release of Destiny Reconciled Part Two of the story, the gripping next addition to the story of Auren.  Read an excerpt below.

My uncle glanced at me, and then turned his gaze back on Kado, frowning. “Will you go?”

“I need to. If not for Cathnor, for my niece. She is a competent shadow stalker, but she will be distraught over Cathnor’s arrest. It could lead her to doing something foolish. I need to make sure she is okay.”

“She is not your responsibility, Kado. You have to trust that Cathnor taught her what she needs.”

Kado nodded. “Under normal circumstances I would agree with you, but things are not like they used to be. If our people are to survive this, we’ll need as many shadow stalkers as possible to stand against the empire. If Cali breaks some rule of theirs, I have no doubt that she will be sent to a reconciliation center and turned against us. We do not need our own to become our enemies.”

“That is a valid point, but I wouldn’t recommend taking Auren with you. She’s the one they are after. I will look after her for you.”

“No!” I yelled, reaching my limit. Why couldn’t they at least let me have some input instead of deciding my fate for me all the time? I was about to say as much, but Kado’s glare kept me from protesting further. Didn’t they understand? Being separated from my foster father while he walked into danger would be hard enough. I couldn’t live in the same village as Etan, knowing I couldn’t see him. It would tear me apart.

“It’s not safe for her in any of the villages,” my foster father told him, his eyes never leaving me.

“I will remain in the forest with her.”

“Your village needs their elder.”

Dosien sighed and nodded in resignation. I was surprised that he was deferring to Kado. Maybe it had something to do with him being my mentor and the whole non-interference rule, but somehow I felt there was more to it. I wasn’t sure what it was, but my uncle looked at him differently now than he had before. My foster father even seemed different. Things were changing too fast, and all the rules seemed to be changing with it.

“Auren will come with me, but not to the village. I’ll leave her somewhere safe while I investigate and look for Cali.”

“Kado, I can–”

My foster father glared at me. “You can do as you’re told, Auren.”
